Privacy Policy
Last updated: October 7, 2026
The short version: MemoExpo uses your location to show you people, posts and places nearby. Other users never see your exact location — only a rough distance rounded to 50 metres. We don't run ads, we don't sell your data, and we don't track you across other apps.
This policy explains what information MemoExpo (“we”, “us”) collects when you use the MemoExpo mobile app and memoexpo.com, how we use it, and the choices you have. If you have questions, email support@memoexpo.com.
1. Information we collect
Account information
- Email address and a hashed password if you sign up with email.
- If you sign in with Apple or Google, we receive the name, email address (which may be an Apple private relay address) and, for Google, profile photo that you allow them to share.
- Profile: display name, username, bio and avatar.
- Your app language, so emails we send you are in the right language.
Location
- With your permission, the app reads your device's precise location while the app is in use. We never access location in the background.
- While the app is open, your latest position is sent to our servers about every 30 seconds so that people nearby can see you're around. We store only your most recent position, overwriting the previous one; it is not a location history.
- Other users can only see that you're within the nearby radius and a distance rounded to 50 metres. Your coordinates are never shown to other users, and our database rules prevent anyone from reading them directly.
- You appear in others' Nearby lists only if you were active in the last 5 minutes and ghost mode is off.
- When you post or check in, the location of that post or check-in is saved with it. Approved posts are shown to people near that place. Check-ins (“footprints”) are visible only to you and your friends.
Content you create
- Posts: photos and text, with the place they were posted.
- Messages between you and your friends.
- Likes, friend requests, friendships, blocks and reports.
Photos and camera
The app accesses your camera or photo library only when you choose to add a photo to a post, and only uploads the photo you pick.
2. How we use information
- To provide the app: show people and posts nearby, your place feed, chat, recommendations and your footprints map.
- To keep MemoExpo safe: review posts before they are published, act on reports, enforce blocks and our Terms.
- To sign you in and send account emails such as verification codes.
- To answer your support requests.
We do not use your information for advertising, we do not sell it, and we do not track you across apps or websites owned by other companies.
3. Who can see what
| Information | Who can see it |
|---|---|
| Display name, username, bio, avatar | Signed-in MemoExpo users |
| That you're nearby + distance (rounded to 50m) | Users within the nearby radius, unless you're in ghost mode or have blocked each other |
| Your exact location | Nobody — not shown to other users |
| Approved posts and their place | Signed-in users (except people you've blocked or who blocked you) |
| Posts awaiting review or rejected | Only you (and our moderators) |
| Footprints / check-ins | You and your friends |
| Messages | You and the friend you're talking to |
4. Service providers
We use trusted providers to run MemoExpo. They process data on our behalf and only as needed to provide their service:
- Supabase — database, sign-in and photo storage.
- Resend — sending account emails such as verification codes.
- Apple and Google — if you choose to sign in with them.
- OpenStreetMap (Overpass API) — to find places near you for Discover, we send an approximate location of the area you're browsing. No account information is sent.
- Apple Maps / Google Maps — map display on your device, under their own privacy policies.
We may also disclose information if required by law, or to protect the safety of our users and the public.
5. How long we keep information
- Your account, profile, posts, footprints and messages are kept while your account is active.
- Your latest position is replaced each time it updates and is removed when your account is deleted.
- When you delete your account, we delete your profile and the content linked to it. Backups are overwritten on a rolling schedule.
6. Your choices and rights
- Location: you can turn on ghost mode in the app at any time, or turn off location access in your device settings (most features need it).
- Edit your profile in the app.
- Delete posts you've made.
- Delete your account: email support@memoexpo.com from your account email address and we'll delete it.
- Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, export or delete your data, or to object to certain processing. Contact us and we'll respond within the time required by law.
7. Security
Data is encrypted in transit. Access is controlled by database rules that, for example, stop anyone from reading another user's raw location or private messages. No system is perfectly secure, but we work to protect your information.
8. Children
MemoExpo is not intended for children under 13 (or the minimum age required in your country), and we don't knowingly collect their information. If you believe a child has created an account, contact us and we'll remove it.
9. International users
MemoExpo is available worldwide, so your information may be processed in countries other than your own. We take steps to protect it wherever it is processed.
10. Changes
We'll update this page when our practices change and update the date at the top. For significant changes we'll also notify you in the app.
